Every year, I love gifting my family honey, tea, and other pantry items from my local farmstand at The Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano, CA. I also enjoy gifting tickets to their Community Table Dinners, which are outdoor open-fire dinners that celebrate the season’s offerings with ingredients from their 28-acre Regenerative Organic Certified farm.

I’ll be making various crafts and baked goods this year! I like to make organic soy wax candles out of old beer, soda, and sparkling water cans, and infuse them with different essential oils. I “wrap” it by taking cuttings from my Christmas tree and dried oranges and tying them around the rim of the can(dle) with a bit of twine. For another gift, I’ll use the tabs from the cans to make outdoor yard and garden art! And my go-to baked good is making banana bread from my grandmother’s recipe.

This year I am going to use our regenerative purchasing guides to find regeneratively sourced ingredients like eggs, flour, etc. to make chocolate chip cookies with my mom. I come from an experiences over material gifts family. Winter break is when I really get to make up for lost family time. My mom and I love to make cookies together, and we love to eat the dough together even more. We’ve got to make sure the products we use are as regenerative as possible to mitigate the future stomach aches and to support awesome farmers and brands working toward a healthier food future.

This holiday season I am gifting my family Biodynamic Turmeric Powder from Solspring and Regenerative Certified Cocoa Powder from Volupta. I enjoy making a cup of Golden Milk to stay warm and cozy during the cold season.

Nishitha’s Go-To Golden Milk

You’ll need:

  • 1 c. Milk
  • 1 tsp. Honey
  • 2 pinches of Turmeric
  • 2 pinches of Cinnamon
  • 2 pinches of Cardamom
  • 1 pinch of Ginger powder

Directions:

  1. Heat milk with spices until it just boils.
  2. Remove from heat. Let cool for a few minutes and pour into a cup with honey. Be sure not to heat the honey with the milk and herbs. Honey can liquefy in warmed milk, but heating honey is not recommended.
  3. Enjoy!

A birthday terrarium for my 6-year-old this year reminded me just how magical—and hopeful—it feels to grow something from scratch. He goes there first thing in the morning to see what has grown. That little burst of life inspired my holiday theme: gifts that grow! Top of my list is the Seed Bomb Gift Set from Terrain. It’s playful, beautifully packaged, and the joy lasts long after the gift wrap is gone—these seed bombs turn into cheerful blooms to watch for!

I will be gifting in-person mushroom foraging trips, mussel harvesting and eating trips, and lessons on how to make delicious sourdough bread.

This year, I’m gifting my family seeds from a local organic farm, Masa Seed Foundation, so they can grow their own delicious herbs, fruits, and vegetables in their garden this spring!

This year I am gifting baked goods, because sometimes the best gifts are the ones you ones made with love, and a little butter! I try and use regenerative products in my baking where possible, including some of the great brands highlighted in our Baking Guide!

Coordinator, Operations

This year I will be supporting my favorite local farm on Bainbridge Island, Winney Farm, where their pasture-raised meats come from land cared for with regenerative practices. They also have a delicious booth at the Bainbridge farmers market. I started baking this month and have been using yummy, restorative ingredients like King Arthur’s Climate Blend. I also plan to make holiday ornaments, garlands, and gift tags from dried citrus to bring a little warmth and natural beauty to my home and gifts.

Jackie Suerth

Coordinator, Social Media

This year I will be gifting homemade bread to my family and friends made from freshly milled regenerative flour! I plan to mill my flour at home and purchase wheat berries from a local regenerative farm, Oatman Farms.

Jenny Neal

Director, Education

This year I’ll be gifting everyone either homemade bone broth or Fond’s Regenerative Bone Broth. Fond’s founder was inspired to create healing broths after being diagnosed with Lyme disease — the same illness my husband lives with — so this gift feels deeply personal. Supporting a company that’s rooted in regeneration and helping people feel better through food-as-medicine makes it even more meaningful. I’ll be gifting recipe cards and Lineage protein chocolate powder on how to make bone broth hot chocolate!

I recently fell in love with baking, so this year, I’m going to try something new and gift homemade vanilla extract—a simple yet thoughtful addition to elevate any recipe (alongside our Baking Guide!) and bring some warmth to the season.

You can make this regenerative by soaking the vanilla beans in Brother’s Bond Bourbon, then wrap each bottle of vanilla extract with festive twine for the perfect gift.

This year, I’m gifting something I truly love – Kiss the Ground Coffee! It’s part of my daily routine, so sharing it with friends and family feels like passing along a little piece of regenerative joy. To make each gift extra special, I’m pairing the coffee with a thrifted mug. I love the hunt- finding pieces that are funny, kitschy, beautiful, or totally one-of-a-kind. It turns every gift into a personalized, meaningful and repurposed surprise.

Leigh’s Mid-Day Pick-Me-Up

You’ll need:

Directions:

  1. Top off with a milk of your choosing.
  2. Cover and shake to mix.
  3. Enjoy!

I love this time of year for rest, as the earth does in a lot of parts of the country. And when I think of rest, I think of blankets from Coyuchi, so all the babies will get those. Then I love to make a “cookie recipe in a jar” to gift to each family, within my larger family. I layer the ingredients for display purposes, and I write out a beautiful recipe card and beautiful ribbon. This year my top ingredient is regenerative chocolate chunks from Alter Eco. I also love to bring a regenerative cheese board to the party, using cheese from Alexandre Family Farm, a certified regenerative dairy whose 100% grass-fed, A2/A2 organic cheddar reflects farming that cares for the soil, animals, water, and ecosystem, and Almonds from Burrough Family which are really delicious! And to sip on, I bring Brooks Wine who reflect their beliefs in caring for each other and the land.

Director, Supporter Relations

This year I’ll be keeping things intentional, simple, and avoiding the consumerism cycle. I plan to make plant cuttings from the many plants I have and put them in pretty thrifted vases. I’ll also be hosting a tea swap with friends where we all bring one box of our favorite tea and go home with a new mix. I’ll bring my favorite teas by Organic India, Tulsi Rose and their Regenerative Organic Certified chamomile tea. For a couple special gifts I’ll be purchasing skincare from Evan Healy – an amazing brand who just got their ROC but has been stewarding the land and communities in a beautiful way from their onset.

I also love to repurpose gift wrap by using material I’ve gotten at thrift stores, and beautiful paper from previous gifts I’ve received. Thrift stores have amazing decorations and wrapping materials many times for $1. Highly recommend over big box stores and Amazon!

Director, Development

My go-to gifts this year include the beautiful biodynamic wines from Brooks Wine—especially the KTG x Brooks Wine collection. And because I’m a lover of all things food, I’m adding some handmade gifts into the mix, too. I’ll be baking trays of golden, herb-studded focaccia and brewing batches of fire cider—a traditional infusion of garlic, ginger, horseradish, hot peppers, citrus, and other aromatics in apple cider vinegar. I love using it in homemade salad dressings, and it’s perfect for a winter wellness boost. A little deliciousness, a little wellness, and a whole lot of love—my favorite kind of holiday giving!

Kaitlyn Kamieniecki

Intern / Operations

Before heading back to Michigan for the holidays, I’ve been gathering goodies from my favorite spots around Puerto Viejo. I’m bringing home Costa Rican coffee from a small local roaster and a mix of handmade chocolates from places like Caribean Chocolate. I picked up a few pieces of artwork I know my friends will love, plus some simple, biodegradable herbal soaps that smell just like the jungle here. It feels good to support the makers in my community and share things that are truly handmade. My favorite find is a chess set made from 100% recycled plastic by Planet Conservation, a local nonprofit that leads beach cleanups and pushes for a plastic-free planet.
